Comment From The Chair – October 2014
In 2012 the country was swept up in the joy and optimism of the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympics as the country worked out how it felt to be Great again. This made the contrast of the biting recession of 2013 all the harder to take. The drastic responses to it have meant that many people have been experiencing joblessness, homelessness and poverty for the first time in their lives. The Churches have been there to help as we have been for centuries and we are able to respond directly and locally to meet the need. The IBEX team have again showed in 2013 that they have the experience and expertise to work with local churches and other community partners to help them to respond to need in their local communities.
IBEX itself has not been immune from the cuts and we have made the adjustments and adaptations necessary to be able to continue as a viable organisation as we are aware that the need for what we have to offer has never been greater. This was understood by one of our major funders who restored their previous level of funding during the year.
The team of David Wrighton and Cliff Bembridge have worked tirelessly throughout the year and we have enlisted the help of others who have been willing to help to create more electronic means of communication and we are also deeply grateful to our new treasurer, Chris Goodhead for ensuring that our finances are sound and our activities can continue into the future.
