Remembering Revd Canon Julian Eagle.
A Memorial Lecture by the Revd Dr Malcolm Brown – Director of Mission and Public Affairs for the Archbishop’s Council of the Church of England.
Last Autumn we were sad to announce the death of one of the founding fathers of SHIM – the forerunner of IBEX. Julian Eagle worked tirelessly and enthusiastically for the Churches in their engagement with the wider world, the Economy, the Workplace, in Southampton, Eastleigh and further afield for just about all his life as an Anglican Priest, which was more than 30 years. And his working life was really all about justice.
One of his colleagues in that time – before I joined SHIM, which was in 1993 – was Malcolm Brown, the Revd Dr Malcolm Brown, who went on to work for the William Temple Foundation, to head up a Theological Training Course and to become the Director of Mission and Public Affairs for the Archbishop’s Council of the Church of England.
“Theology in Everyday Life – Industrial Mission as a bellwether for the church in the world.”
On May 3rd, we will be fondly remembering Julian and his influence, and considering what, if he were starting afresh today, his priorities would be, what he would be persuading the Churches to do.
For those who knew him, Julian was an inspirational figure. so come and be inspired.
